3 Easy Questions that will Declutter Any Space
July 1, 2009 No CommentsIf you are like the rest of us who, at one time or another, have struggled with organization and clutter, here’s a great exercise for you to do this upcoming week or anytime you want to clear up a stack of papers or those clothes in your closet you keep hanging on to.
Spend at least 5 to 10 minutes in a room or a specific location (your desk or the “junk drawer”) and individually pick up at least five items. Ask yourself these three questions for each item:
1. Does it lift my energy when I think about it or look at it?
2. Do I absolutely love it?
3. Is it genuinely useful and do I use it?
If you answered “yes” to all three questions, then ask yourself, “Is it located in the place where it belongs?” If no, make sure you put it where it belongs right away.
If you answered “no” to any of the three questions, get rid of it! You can throw it away or perhaps donate it to a charity. Just get it out of your house as quickly as possible.
You will find that these three questions can make the task of organizing an area very simple.
Enjoy your new, clean space!
*The three questions above on organizing were taken from the book, “It’s Hard to Make a Difference When You Can’t Find Your Keys,” by Marilyn Paul, M.D.
